At the Auction The Orientalist Sale, Live Auction, on 29 March 2022 at Sotheby’s Londen under nr. 28. the painting of Jean Baptiste Discart (Modena, 1855 – Paris, 1940), The Basket Weaver, Tangier, comes under the hammer. It is signed right under J. Discart, Tanger. After it was made the painting was sold at the Gallery Arthur Tooth & Sons in Paris and purchased from the above by the grandfather of the present owner. This painting by Discart is one of the highlights of The Orientalist Sale at Sotheby’s London on Tuesday 29 March 2022. Because it was not known the painting was not integrated in the book about Discart: Theo P.G. Kralt, Jean Baptiste Discart Orientalist paintings and Dutch portraits, Van Gruting Publishers 2020.
